Dan Elzinga Announces Candidacy for Schererville Town Council – Ward 4
Schererville, IN — Dan Elzinga, of the Elzinga Farm family, with more than 80 years in the community, today announced his candidacy for Schererville Town Council, Ward 4. Elzinga seeks to bring fresh perspective, stronger accountability and real, measurable results to local government.
“After years of watching important projects stall, taxpayer dollars spent without results and leadership default to studies instead of solutions; it’s clear Schererville needs a new direction,” Elzinga stated. “I’m running to protect property values, deliver responsible development, improve traffic safety, and ensure transparency and accountability in our town government.”
Elzinga pointed to one of the clearest examples of stalled progress: the Illiana Speedway property. Nearly ten years after its purchase and more than $2.5 million in taxpayer funds spent studying its future, the site still sits idle with no clear plan forward.
“Ten years. Over $2.5 million spent. No progress,” Elzinga said. “That’s not acceptable. Our community deserves leadership that turns opportunity into action and delivers real results for taxpayers.”
Elzinga emphasized his deep connection to the community and his understanding of the issue’s families face every day; from increasing traffic congestion and safety concerns to the need for smart, well-planned growth that protects home values.
“Schererville is a great town, but we cannot afford another decade of delays,” Elzinga added. “Responsible growth, safer streets, and transparent leadership shouldn’t be goals, we should already be delivering on them.”
“As a small business owner and real estate professional, I understand how decisions made at the town level directly impact property values, economic growth, and the quality of life for our residents,” Elzinga said. “Taxpayer dollars should produce results; not excuses.”
Elzinga’s campaign emphasizes a clear contrast: results versus the status quo.
“My family has invested in this community for 80 years,” he said. “I’m running to make sure Schererville continues to move forward for the next 80 with leadership focused on accountability, responsible growth and getting things done.”
“Elzinga understands our community; from youth leagues and local parks to family farms and small business challenges,” said Caleb S. Johnson, Chairman of the Schererville Republican Organization, which recently endorsed Elzinga unanimously. “He’s committed to delivering the kind of leadership and results our residents deserve.”
